Obituary for Walter Carl Tharp

Walter Carl Tharp of Marysville passed away peacefully at home on May 19, 2022. He was born in Camden, New Jersey to the late Leonard and Marguerite (Rouse) Tharp. He is survived by his devoted wife of 38 years, Eileen (Taylor) Tharp; Children: Linda (Kevin) Smith, Christine (William) Wallace, Tammy Tharp, Walter Tharp, Lisa (Michael) Festa, and Ashley Tharp; Siblings: Arthur (Lynn) Tharp, Robert (Betty) Tharp; and Grandchildren: Matthew, Alicia, Tyler, Brianna, Kirsten, Cassie, Michael, Brittany, Tori, Samantha and Sabrina.

He was a proud United States Marine Corps veteran as well as a devoted law enforcement agent. He began his career with the Springfield Police Department, continued onto the Philadelphia Police Department, and then spent 25 years with the Conrail Police Force, moving up the ranks and across the state as Inspector for the Pittsburgh division and finally retiring as the Conrail Captain of Police in Harrisburg.

He was the Vice President of his local chapter of the Fraternal Order of Police, and a member of the Masonic Lodge in Marysville. He was also a member of the Compass Point Church in Dillsburg.

He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. The Funeral Service will be held at at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, May 26, 2022, at Myers-Baker Funeral Home, and will be officiated by Pastor Neil Olcott. A viewing will be held from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service. Burial will immediately follow at St. Johns Cemetery, Mechanicsburg, PA.
