Obituary for S. Adele Confair

Shirley Adele Confair, 85, a long-time resident of Camp Hill, entered God’s Kingdom on April 8, 2023 at the Swaim Health Center in Newville.

Born September 14, 1937 in Berwick, PA she was the daughter of the late Woodin and Ethel Clemens. She married William F. Confair May 30, 1958, who survives.

Adele was a 1955 graduate of Berwick High School. After graduation she worked as a dental hygienist prior to the start of her family. Along with her husband she owned the Cumberland Skateium in Mechanicsburg. She retired from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, where she was employed for 20 years.

Always a caring mother and active community member she was involved in numerous clubs and activities. She was a member of the Red Hat Society, serving as the secretary and event planner. She was President of the Camp Hill Junior Civic Club during the 1975-1976 Bicentennial year. Community service continued over the decades through numerous volunteer positions within her church and other community organizations. She was a Cub Scout Den mother, supporter of the Girl Scouts, and member of the Camp Hill Woman’s Club.

Many will remember her love of cats, cooking, music, and boating. As members of the Baltimore Yacht Club, weekends and summer holidays were spent along the shores of the Chesapeake Bay. She was a Penn State football fan and enjoyed a good football game. She was quick to share a new recipe or favorite book with family and friends. Many hours of games, cards, and homework support are cherished family memories. She took great pride in her home and care of collected belongings from travel to Williamsburg and many other historic destinations.

She is survived by her husband of 64 years, William F. Confair of Camp Hill, her daughter Dr. Lori Franklin and her husband Richard of Midland Park, New Jersey, her son, William E. Confair and his wife Susan of Camp Hill, four grandchildren Andrew Franklin (deceased), Robert Franklin, Samuel Confair, and Allison Confair.

A visitation will be held from 1:00 PM until 2:30 PM on Saturday, April 22, 2023 followed by a Memorial Service at 2:30 at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2000 Chestnut Street, Camp Hill with Rev. Jack Horner, officiating. Inurnment will be in the church columbarium. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be designated to the Trinity Lutheran Church Traditional Music Fund.
