Robert “Bob” Lee Potteiger, 90, of Mechanicsburg, PA, passed away at his residence on Wednesday, May 10, 2023, with his family by his side.
He was born January 31, 1933, in Carlisle, PA, the son of the late Russel L. and Beatrice (Sweger) Potteiger. Bob deeply loved his wife of 71 years, Pauline L. (Knepper) Potteiger, having met each other as childhood sweethearts in the one room schoolhouse in New Kingstown, PA around 1943.
Bob was a faithful member of Trinity United Methodist Church in New Kingstown where he served on various committees over the years. He formerly attended and served in the Carlisle Brethren in Christ Church for many years prior to 1980. Bob loved Jesus which was obvious by his humble, kind, and generous spirit. He also loved and served his family, valued family time, and made sure to plan family vacations together.
Bob was a butcher and entrepreneur all of his life. He worked beside his father Russel, co-owning Potteiger Meats for over 50 years. In addition to custom butchering, they managed Farmer’s Market stands at Broad Street, West Shore, Kline Village, Rudy’s (Colonial Park) and Carlisle. His beloved wife Pauline was always by his side and worked tirelessly to help Bob succeed in all he did. Bob also dabbled in real estate, developing Southfield Crossing in New Kingstown and donating land for what would become Potteiger Park in New Kingstown.
In addition to his wife Pauline, Bob is survived by a son, Ron Potteiger (Sue) of Sun City Center, FL, two daughters, Bonnie Barnes (Woodrow) of York Springs, PA and Diann Armstrong (Tim) of Mechanicsburg, PA, as well as seven grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
