Obituary for Richard (Dick) Lohr Murray

Richard (Dick) Lohr Murray, Sr. 88, of Duncannon, PA passed away on Monday, May 11, 2020 at Kinkora Pythian Home, Duncannon.

Born on September 27, 1931 in Connellsville, PA, he was the son of the late John A. and Hazel (Lohr) Murray, Sr. and is survived by his brother John (Jack) Murray and sister Mary Rohrbaugh, both of Mechanicsburg, PA.

Dick was a 1949 graduate of Camp Hill High School and went on to attend Penn State University and the University of Pennsylvania. He was a Sergeant in the Pennsylvania National Guard for over 8 years. Richard owned and operated Murray-Pontiac-Buick Car Dealership in New Bloomfield, PA for 17 years. He was a member of the Camp Hill Church of God, taught Sunday School, and lead Bible Study groups. In addition, he was a 50+ year Mason with the Masonic Lodge 781 and a previous member of the Shriners, Consistory, and Jesters.

Dick was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who loved comedic humor and had a life-long passion for cars and the automobile business. Of all the cars he owned, his favorite was a 1948 Buick Convertible which eventually enabled him to offer a pretty, young woman a ride home from work. It was love at first sight and this pretty, young woman quickly went on to become his beloved wife of 67 years.

He taught his family the importance of faith, developed lasting family traditions, and always encouraged his children with “Do Your Best”. He had enormous love and pride for his family which he openly shared with others.

Richard is survived by his wife of 67 years, Arlene (Gates) Murray of Duncannon, daughter Eileen Bruner and husband Steve of Mechanicsburg, daughter Charlene Owen and husband Steve of Duncannon and son Richard (Rich) Murray and wife Barbara of Mechanicsburg. In addition, he was blessed with 5 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

A private memorial service and interment at St. John’s Cemetery in Mechanicsburg are being planned and will be held at a later date. Myers-Harner Funeral & Cremation Services, Camp Hill, has been entrusted with funeral arrangements.
