Mary Elizabeth “Mae” Snizik, 97, formerly of Lemoyne, PA, passed away on Wednesday, May 25, 2022, at Country Meadows Retirement Community, Mechanicsburg, PA.
Born on May 16, 1925, in McKees Rocks, PA, she is the daughter of the late Alexander and Agnes (Schneider) Hadfield and the widow of Albert B. Snizik.
Mary, whom many knew as “Mae”, was a loving and dedicated wife, mother, and homemaker. She and her husband, Al, were later-in-life parents who adored their son, Rick, beyond measure. Mae had a kind and generous heart and dearly loved children, animals, and spiritual beauty in all forms. She also enjoyed oil painting, interior decorating, and spending as much time as she could in Stone Harbor, NJ. It must be said, though, that her ability to pick winning slot machines in Atlantic City because their lights “winked” at her was absolutely uncanny. Her record speaks for itself.
During WWII, while Al served in the Army Air Corps, Mae worked at the Dravo Corporation’s Neville Island Shipyard followed by several years in retail at Kaufmann’s Department Store in downtown Pittsburgh. She was a member and past president of the West Shore Womens’ Club as well as a member of The Church of the Good Shepherd in Camp Hill, PA, where she also taught CCD for several years.
She is survived by her son, Richard A. “Rick” Snizik and his wife, Claudia, of Mechanicsburg, PA, as well as many nieces and nephews and their families.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert B. Snizik, her brother, Alexander J. “Haddy” Hadfield, and two sisters, Agnes Hadfield, and Ruth (Hadfield) Snizik.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, June 3, 2022, at the Church of the Good Shepherd, 3435 Trindle Rd., Camp Hill, with Rev. Neil Sullivan as Celebrant. A visitation with Mae’s family will be held in the church on Friday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the Mass. Interment will be held in Rolling Green Cemetery, Camp Hill. Myers-Baker Funeral & Cremation Services, Camp Hill, has been entrusted with funeral arrangements.
