Obituary for Marie Cavanaugh (Tierney)

Marie Cavanaugh, 93, of Camp Hill, PA passed away Sunday March 28,2021. Marie was born on Easter Sunday, April 17, 1927 and entered into eternal life on Palm Sunday, March 28, 2021. Marie was predeceased by her husband, Charles J. Cavanaugh and sister, Nan Tierney Walsh.

Marie was a graduate of Marywood University, earning a B.A. in home economics and she went on to obtain a masters degree in special education. She taught and cared for children with special needs at United Cerebral Palsy Centers in both Camp Hill and Honesdale, PA for 29 years.

Marie was an avid Notre Dame fan and obtained a special degree from the University of Notre Dame at an Elder Hostel conference in 1987. She was a devout Catholic and her deep faith in God carried her throughout her life and helped to shape her into the strong, ethical and charismatic person that she was. But, Marie also had an incredible sense of humor that very frequently made her the life of the party. She was a person that could induce laughter in others even when situations were serious. Marie was very contemporary in her views and philosophy regarding life and because of this, she could relate to people of all age groups. Marie loved to converse with others and solve the world’s problems.

Marie is survived by four children that she brought up with her husband Chuck in Camp Hill, PA. Marilyn Holder and Ellen Cavanaugh of Myrtle Beach, SC and Chuck (Jill) Cavanaugh of Camp Hill as well as Thomas (Catherine) Cavanaugh of Scranton, PA. She is also survived by four grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. She was also an aunt, cousin and friend to so very, very many people. When Marie retired, she resided at her house on Moosic Lake in Scranton in the summer and Myrtle Beach in the winter. Marie loved life to the fullest. She was a mentor, role model, and friend to so very many people. Most importantly, Marie always befriended those that really needed a friend.

A memorial service will be held for family and friends on Saturday, April 17, 2021, at Myers-Baker Funeral Home, 1903 Market St, Camp Hill. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM until 12:00 PM, with services to follow. Burial will be held this June in Scranton, PA.
