Obituary for Maria Mercedes Coreano

Maria Mercedes Coreano, 69, of Lancaster, PA, passed away at her home surrounded by her loving family on Friday, November 5, 2021. Born on December 29, 1951, in San Juan, Puerto Rico, she was the daughter of the late Jose and Mercedes (Bonilla) Sanchez. She was a member of the San Juan Bautista Church in Lancaster, PA.

Mercedes held many professions over the years, from being a meat packer, childcare worker, custodian, housewife, and was even a self-taught seamstress.

She loved dancing to Spanish music of all sorts: Salsa, Meringue, and Bachata. Above all, she loved taking care of her grandchildren, and also took care of many other children during her lifetime as a professional childcare worker. Mercedes was also an awesome cook who loved to make big meals for her family and friends.

Anyone who made contact instantly fell in love with her; her smiles and jokes were infectious. She learned to speak English when her children attended school and helped them with their homework. Mercedes was a loving woman who cared deeply for her family.

Mercedes is survived by her loving companion, Jose Medina; two sons: Elvin Coreano (Karen Michelle) of Lancaster, PA, and Emmanuel Coreano, of Mahanoy, PA; two daughters: Marilyn Coreano and Melissa Coreano, both of Lancaster, PA; seven grandchildren: Tiana Samantha Coreano, of Auburndale, Fl, Naomi Evette Coreano, of Lancaster, Emily Marie Coreano, of Lancaster, Marina Belle Poole, of Lancaster, Justin Brice Poole, of Lancaster, Jor-El Edward Poole, of Lancaster, and Julien Emmanuel Coreano, of Deltona, FL.

She was preceded in death by a son, Edward Coreano, and a granddaughter, Nina Amber Coreano.

A memorial service will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.
