Obituary for Lauralee Kunz (Over)

Lauralee (Over) Kunz, age 83, of Harrisburg and Camp Hill, died peacefully at Country Meadows Assisted Living, on June 16, 2023, after a long illness. As a patient of Lifesong Hospice for a longer period of time than most, Lauralee knew she was blessed, as she became like family with her hospice caretakers and was offered the time needed to say goodbye to her family and friends, who loved and supported her these past few years.

Born in Harrisburg, on August 3, 1939, Lauralee was the daughter of Benjamin and Anna (Haines) Over; both parents and her two brothers, Barry Haines and Richard Over, along with sister Fay Zimmerman, preceded her in death.

Lauralee was a 1957 graduate of William Penn Senior High School, in Harrisburg; and upon graduation, she chose to pursue a career. Over the course of her extensive career, she served as Vice President of Public Affairs and Director of Community relations at Rochester Institute of Technology. She worked for the US Department of Education and the US Department of Health and Urban Development, in Washington, DC, and was a Presidential Appointee under Presidents Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush. Finally, when she decided to move back home to PA, she worked as Office Manager at Robert J. Morrison Eye Associates and as the Bridal Registry Consultant at Boscov’s in Camp Hill.

Most important, perhaps, in Lauralee’s adventures, was when she reunited with her high school sweetheart, Ronald P. Kunz, Sr., in the late 1990’s, whom she married in 2000. With Ron by her side, she enjoyed years of never-ending excitement and fun-filled escapades on their trips to Rehoboth Beach and Florida Keys, along with cruises, time with friends at the Lower Allen VFW, and when as stepmom to Ron II, she even earned the title Nana, all before Ronald Sr. passed away in 2015.

Nana always commented that she loved her “boys,” when she referred to her two grandchildren, Eric and Ryan. In fact, she wrote them both letters only a few short months ago, to say goodbye and to thank them both for their visits when they’d play Uno, Skipbo, Monopoly and other games with her, as they were aware she needed to stay busy after her husband passed away. No matter what the celebration, both grandsons always found a way to incorporate Nana, whether it was stopping by after graduation, in cap and gown, or cruising past her door at Country Meadows so she could share the excitement of a new car. Her boys loved her, and she adored them.

Lauralee is survived by her stepson, Ronald P. Kunz II (Peggy) and her grandsons, Eric and Ryan; sister-in-law Nancy Pinko, nieces Laurie Malave, Cindy Zobel, Sharon Hunn, Debra Doyle, and Kathy Dillman; nephew Terry Haines, and numerous great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by sister-in-law Fay Nelms.

Relatives and friends are invited to a family visitation, from 1-2 p.m., on July 3, 2023, at Myers-Baker Funeral Home, 1903 Market Street, Camp Hill, PA. Funeral service will begin at 2 p.m., and interment will be held privately.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the nonprofit Lifesong Hospice Foundation, 3880 Tecport Drive, Suite 2, Harrisburg, PA 17111 or via Internet at
