Obituary for Karen C. Lamb (Cooper)

Karen C. Lamb, 79, of Mechanicsburg, PA, passed away on Saturday, July 2, 2022, at UPMC West Shore Hospital, Mechanicsburg.

Born on March 22, 1943, in Harrisburg, PA, she was the daughter of the late LeRoy Fenimore and Esther Christine (Hoke) Cooper.

Karen was a graduate of Wiconisco High School. Following high school, she attended the Polyclinic Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1964. Karen furthered her education by completing her bachelor’s degree from Lebanon Valley College in 1968. She later received her Master of Science in Education from Temple University. During her career as a registered nurse, she worked for both Polyclinic Hospital in Harrisburg, and Holy Spirit Hospital in Camp Hill. Prior to her retirement, Karen worked for the PA Dept of Public Welfare, where she was a nurse reviewer. She was a member of West Shore Evangelical Free Church, Mechanicsburg. Karen loved to sing and was a charter member of The Harrisburg Chamber Singers, later called Bel Voce. One thing Karen was most proud of was her work with the Nursing Grant Program at Bethany Village. She was the chairperson of the program that provides funds for Bethany Village Associates to further their education in the healthcare field. She was also a member of the Central Pennsylvania Literacy Council.

Karen is survived by her husband of 54 years, Robert L. Lamb, of Mechanicsburg, a son, Michael J. Lamb and his wife Natalie Hejko, of Brooklyn, NY; and two grandchildren, Audrey and Zachary Lamb.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Virginia Nicole Lamb, and a brother, Kimm Cooper.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Monday, September 26, 2022, at the Rife Center in Bethany Village, 325 Wesley Dr., Mechanicsburg, PA, with Chaplain Brand Eaton officiating.

Interment will take place at the convenience of the family in the cemetery of New Hanover Lutheran Church, Gilbertsville, PA.
