John W. Sims, 89, of New Cumberland, PA, passed away on Monday, February 1, 2021 at Spring Creek Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Harrisburg, PA.
Born on April 29, 1931 in Williamsport, PA, he was the son of the late John F. and Lillian (Fisher) Sims.
John was a 1949 graduate of Lemoyne High School. He was a US Army veteran who served during the Korean War. John was a retired storekeeper for the US Postal Service. He was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lemoyne. He served as head usher at the church and also served on many of the church committees. John was a member of the VFW Post 7415 and American Legion Post 143, both of New Cumberland.
He is survived by three daughters, Deborah K. Sims, of Lancaster, PA, Janice S. MacIvor and her husband David, of Indian Trail, NC, and Christine S. Reilly and her husband Mark T., of Camp Hill, PA; a brother, Ronald Sims and his wife June, of Shiremanstown, PA; eight grandchildren, Renee Buesking, of Athens, GA, Kevin Buesking and his wife Amy, of Elizabethtown, PA, Tim MacIvor, of Spartanburg, SC, Katy MacIvor and her fiancée Evan Reep, of Kernersville, NC, Becca, Rachael, Tommy and Samantha Reilly of Camp Hill, PA; one great-granddaughter, Emery Buesking; a sister in-law Patsy Hoke; three nephews and one niece; and his loving companion, Joan Corbo, of Harrisburg.
John was preceded in death by his wife, Kathryn (Hoke) Sims, and a brother in-law, Robert Hoke, Jr.
A graveside service with military honors will be held at 12:00 P.M. on Saturday, February 13, 2021 in Rolling Green Cemetery, 1811 Carlisle Rd., Camp Hill, PA. Myers-Baker Funeral & Cremation Services, Camp Hill, has been entrusted with funeral arrangements.
