Obituary for Georgiana M. Schnarrs (Lorigan)
Georgiana M. Schnarrs, 81, of Camp Hill, passed away on Thursday, July 20, 2023, at Hershey Medical Center.
Born November 9, 1941, in Philipsburg, PA, she was the daughter of the late James and Sophie (Miko) Lorigan.
Georgiana graduated from Philipsburg-Osceola High School in 1959. After graduating high school, she attended Mercy Hospital School of Nursing and received her diploma in 1962.
In 1965, she married her high school sweetheart Robert “McGee” Schnarrs (deceased), her husband of 53 years.
Georgiana’s nursing career spanned a period of 60 years during which time she worked at the Harrisburg Hospital (Harrisburg, PA), Moshannon Valley Medical Center (Philipsburg, PA), the Centre Community Surgical Center (State College, PA), Holy Spirit Hospital (Camp Hill, PA) and the Hershey Outpatient Surgery Center (Hershey, PA). She spent much of her career working in the operating room and held various nurse manager positions. Georgiana was a lifelong nurse, having never retired although she did cut back her time at work after her 75th birthday.
Georgiana showered unconditional love on her husband, children, grandchildren, family, and friends. In 1998, her husband suffered a stroke and became disabled. He was able to continue to live at home for the remainder of his life (2019) solely due to her commitment to his loving care. “Georgie” was devoted to her children and grandchildren. Georgie never missed a football, basketball, volleyball game, wrestling match or a band concert when one of her four children were participating. She continued to sit on bleachers in her 70’s and 80’s to watch her three grandchildren compete in various athletic activities.
Georgiana loved the beach where she found peace and solace while walking the shoreline or reading a book while sitting in her beach chair in Cape May, NJ, Topsail Island, NC, Sanibel and Fort Myers Beach, FL.
Georgiana also loved cooking family meals (especially during the holidays), Pilates, yoga, planting flowers on her deck, playing cards, having coffee, and taking walks with her close friends. Her favorite past time was babysitting and spending time with her grandchildren.
We will all miss her bright heartwarming smile.
Georgiana is survived by her brother John (and Margaret) Lorigan of Harrisburg, PA; her daughter Laurie (and John) Kennedy of Camp Hill, PA; her son Robert Schnarrs (and Melissa Meyer) of Camp Hill, PA; her daughter Amy (and Paul) Bitting of Etters, PA; her daughter-in-law Jayne Mann of Spring Grove, PA; three grandchildren: McGee and Gery Schnarrs and Jack Kennedy; her cousin Peg Dudley of Laguna Woods, CA; and a niece and two nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Georgiana was preceded in death by her very beloved son, Timothy J. Schnarrs in 2003.
A visitation will be held from 6:30 to 7:30 pm on Wednesday, July 26, 2023, at the Myer-Baker Funeral & Cremation Services, Inc., 1903 Market Street, Camp Hill, PA 17011 and on Thursday, July 27, 2023, from 10:00 am until the time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am, at the Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 3435 Trindle Road, Camp Hill, PA 17011 with Rev. Neil S. Sullivan, as Celebrant.
Memorials in her name may be made to the Good Shepherd Catholic Church.
