Obituary for Freda R. Keane

Freda R. Keane, 92, of Camp Hill, PA, passed away on Monday, October 3, 2022, at Penn State Health Holy Spirit Medical Center, Camp Hill.

Born on July 17, 1930, in Pittsburgh, PA, she was the daughter of the late Victor and Freda (Menz) Obringer, and she was the widow of Richard H. Keane.

Freda was a graduate of William Penn High School. She was retired as an Administrative Officer from the Executive Office, Commonwealth of PA. She had also worked at the Harrisburg Chamber of Commerce and the former Bowman’s Department Store in Harrisburg. She was a member of the PA Association of Retired State Employees, former member of the International Personnel Management Association (IPMA) and the Harrisburg Charter Chapter of the Business Women’s Association, where she handled the planning of their trips and outings. She was a former leader of the Girl Scouts of America and is a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Enola, PA. Freda loved caring for animals. She was known to care for the neighborhood stray cats. She would take them to be spayed or neutered and then bring them to her home and care for them as her own. She loved gardening, spending time outdoors, going to lunch with her friends and playing pinochle.

Freda is survived by two sons; Steven M. Keane, of Hershey, PA, and Richard P. Keane and his wife Joanne, of Elkton, MD, a daughter, Barbara A. Sieck and her husband John, of Mechanicsburg, PA, seven grandchildren; Ken (wife Megan), Greg (wife Jessica), Chris (wife Nikki), Sean, Brian, and Sarah Keane, and John R. Sieck (wife Dana), and eight great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband Richard, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Victor and Raymond Obringer.

A mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, October 10, 2022, in Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 225 Salt Rd., Enola, PA, with Rev. Robert Yohe as Celebrant. A viewing will be held in the church on Monday, from 9:30 A.M. until the time of the mass. Burial will be held following the mass in Holy Cross Cemetery, Harrisburg, PA. Myers-Baker Funeral & Cremation Services, Camp Hill, has been entrusted with funeral arrangements.
