Edwin James Sharples, 93, of Wormleysburg, Pa.
passed away 7/20/2023 in Holy Spirit Hospital.
Edwin was born August 15, 1929, in Cleveland, Ohio to Lillian and Fred Sharples, and grew up along the banks of the St Lawrence River in Ogdensburg and Massena, NY. In 1950, he entered the United States Air Force and began his career as a Supply Officer that would send him, and his family, all over the world to places such as Libya, Morocco, Turkey, just to name a few. In 1970, he retired from active duty as a Major and decided to settle down and stay in Mechanicsburg PA, where he worked at the Navy Depot for the Navy Ships Parts Control Center. It was there that he would meet his beloved wife of 43 years, Joyce. Ed was a Lutheran and belonged to the West Shore Lodge # 681 F&AM in Camp Hill. He was a 40-year member of the American Company of Military Historians, the American Society of Military Insignia Collectors, and was also a volunteer at the PA National Guard Museum at Fort Indiantown Gap identifying, restoring and preserving military artifacts.
Edwin is survived by his wife of 43 years, Joyce; son Kristopher N Sharples and his wife Martina of Pirmasens, Germany; son Kenneth P Sharples of Southport, NC; stepson John Peters and his wife Karen of East Berlin, PA; grandchildren Kevin, Kimberly, Kristine, Stefan, James, Pauleen, and Sarah, and one great granddaughter. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his brother Robert Allen Sharples and son Robert James Sharples.
Interment will be handled at the convenience of the family.
