Edward R. Kantes, 73, of Camp Hill, PA, passed away on Sunday, August 20, 2023, at his home in Camp Hill.
Born on September 28, 1949, in New Castle, PA, he was the son of the late Stephen J. and Catherine M. (Cunningham) Kantes.
Ed was a 1967 graduate of Wilkinsburg High School, Pittsburgh, PA. He spent his younger years boxing, playing basketball and playing football. After high school, he started working at a steel mill in Pittsburgh. He went on to work as a welder on railroad cars for Pullman Standard. He eventually retired as a network operations manager for various companies, including EDS. Following his retirement, Ed committed himself to spending time with his children, grandchildren, and with his wife by assisting her at her position at The Church of the Good Shepherd as the Director of Youth Ministry. He enjoyed volunteering at church events, and he became known as a "Fish Fry Connoisseur". When he wasn’t helping at the church, he assisted his wife in her role as a Girl Scout leader. Over the years, he had tirelessly helped his wife run the cheerleading program at Good Shepherd Catholic School, along with the After School Care program and After School Care Clubs. Ed was hard working, creative, and could fix anything. He always had a good joke and was always there for people when they needed him. He enjoyed cooking for his family and his children said he made the best "smashed potatoes". When he had some spare time, he would watch tv and support his favorite football team, the Pittsburgh Steelers.
