Obituary for Edward David Crossley
Edward “Ed” David Crossley, 89, of Camp Hill, PA, was called home to be with the Lord and passed away peacefully at home, Sunday, June 13, 2021, after a short battle with cancer. Born on August 12, 1931, he was the son of the late Gilbert and Navonne (Brands) Crossley.
Ed was a graduate of State College High School Class of 1950. He went on to receive a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Arts from Pennsylvania State University. He then completed his Master’s Degree in Secondary Education and Counseling also from Pennsylvania State University. He was a member of the Phi Delta Kappa International Fraternity. After graduating, Ed dedicated his life to education as an Industrial Arts school teacher in several Harrisburg area school districts, teaching at Swatara Junior High School, Steelton-Highspire High School, and finishing his career at Harrisburg High School.
Ed was a HAM radio operator who held his amateur radio license for over 70 years. His operator key W3SMF is now silent. He was a member of many clubs. He was a life member of both the American Radio Relay League (ARRL) and the South Mountain Radio Amateurs (SMRA), as well as serving as a past SMRA Vice President. Ed was a former member of the Paxtang Lions Club where he assisted in the development of the Summer 20 Book Reading Club for school age children. He was also a life member of the PA Association of School Retirees. He was a Mason with the Perseverance Lodge No. 21 F. & A.M., Harrisburg, and the Perseverance Royal Arch Chapter No. 21. He was a member of the Zembo Shriners, Pilgrim Commandery No. 11 Knights Templary, both of Harrisburg, and he was a life member of the Tall Cedars of Lebanon, No 43, Harrisburg. He and his wife are longtime members of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Camp Hill.
In his spare time, he enjoyed traveling, gardening, and being with his family and many SMRA members. He enjoyed going to his grandchildren’s sporting events, and most of all, celebrating with family. Ed was also an avid Penn State fan. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend to many.
He is survived by the “love of his life”, his wife of 34 years, Joyce (Lear) (Chronister) Crossley, of Camp Hill, PA; three daughters: Susan Klock, Deborah Stepansky (Joe), and Karen Crossley (Donna); two step-daughters: Karen Ridge (Scott) and Patricia Ruiz-Pronick (Bill); one sister, Navonne Crandall, of Girard, PA; three grandchildren: Jason Klock, of Harrisburg, PA, Alex Ruiz, of Middletown, PA, and Rachael Ruiz, of Atlanta, GA; Two step-grandchildren, Philip Pronick (Alicia) and Kendra Pronick; three great-grandchildren: Avalyn, Elijah, and Owen Klock, all of Harrisburg, PA; as well as a nephew and three nieces.
Ed was preceded in death by his twin brother, Donald E. Crossley.
A celebration of Ed’s life will be held at 12:00 P.M. on Saturday, June 26, 2021, in the Myers-Baker Funeral Home, 1903 Market St., Camp Hill, with Pastor Dale Barrick officiating. Ed’s family will greet family and friends in the funeral home on Saturday from 11:00 A.M. until the time of the service. There will be no burial following the service as Ed’s wishes were to be cremated.
