Obituary for Charles Paul Bankes

Charles P. Bankes, Sr, 77, of East Berlin, PA, passed away at his home on Monday, January 3, 2022. Born on January 11, 1944, in Harrisburg, PA, he was the son of the late Mary Pauline (Dopp) Bankes and Clarence Leroy Bankes, Sr.

Charles attended East Pennsboro High School, and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in the winter of 1962. He proudly served for ten years, including time served in the Vietnam War, and reached the rank of Sergeant. After the end of his active duty, Charles went on to work as a forklift operator at the Mechanicsburg Navy Depot.

Charles was preceded in death by two brothers: Clarence Bankes, Jr. and David Bankes; a sister, Donna Quaca; a nephew, James Bankes, Jr.; and a son-in-law, Brett Bolton.

He is survived by four daughters: Tina Shue, and her husband William, of New York, Charlene Bolton, of East Berlin, PA, Anna Neis, and her husband Justin, of Mandan, ND, and Cassandra Bankes, and her wife Kim, of East Berlin, PA; one brother: James Bankes, and his wife Jackie, of Mechanicsburg, PA; six grandchildren: Dorothy Shue, and her fiance Logan Carmine, of Westminster, MD, Matt Shue, of Taneytown, MD, Raymond Shue, of New York, and Steven Bass, Elora Bankes, and Troy Bankes, all of East Berlin, PA; two great-grandchildren: Madison and Brooke Grouker, of Westminster, MD; five nephews: Jerry Bankes, and his wife Heidi, Nathan Bankes, Jonathan Bankes, Daniel Quaca, and Chris Quaca; and two nieces: Cathy Quaca and Diane Bankes.

A funeral service will be held at 12:30 P.M. on Wednesday, January 12, 2022, at Myers-Baker Funeral Home, 1903 Market St, Camp Hill, PA 17011, with Rev. Charles Martzall officiating. A viewing will be held in the funeral home on Wednesday from 11:30 A.M. until the time of the service. Interment will follow the service at 2:30 P.M. at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, PA, 17003.
