Obituary for Carolina "Carla" Christina Prins (de Roy)

Carolina Christina Prins, 90, of Camp Hill, PA, passed away on Tuesday, August 23, 2022, at The Woods at Cedar Run, Camp Hill, PA.

Born on April 7, 1932, in Schiedam, Netherlands, she was the daughter of the late Nicolaas J. and Lena P. (Van Der Kade) de Roy.

Carla received her Master of Social Work from the University of Amsterdam in 1953. Carla worked for Harrisburg Hospital for 25 years in the areas of Social Work and Discharge Planning. She retired as Director of Utilization Review in 1996. She served as President of Utilization Coordinators of Central PA and received many accolades during her career.

Carla was a member of the Camp Hill Women’s Club and the Red Hat Society. She volunteered in support of our troops through Blue Star Mothers, and as a family support liaison in the Family Readiness Program for the Red Horse Squadron of the Air National Guard.

Carla was known for her kindness and bright spirit. She was wise, hardworking, and adventuresome. She was a proud American who immigrated to the United States from the Netherlands with her husband and three daughters in 1958. She lived in California and Colorado before moving to Pennsylvania in 1969. Out West, she enjoyed camping, skiing, and horse back riding. Carla was an avid sailor, sailing with her husband for many years on the Chesapeake Bay, where they were longtime members of the Baltimore Yacht Club. During her retirement years, Carla loved arranging flowers, baking, holidays, and most of all spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In recent years, her Toy Poodle, Toby brought her much joy, comfort, and companionship. In 2018 Carla moved to the Woods at Cedar Run where she made many new friends.

She is survived by three sons, Jules Prins and his wife Carrie, of Firestone, CO, Lucas Prins, of Camp Hill, PA, and Jacob Prins and his wife Angela, of Camp Hill, PA; two daughters, Yolande Free and her husband Roger, of Littleton, CO, and Jacqueline Pugh and her husband William, of Mechanicsburg, PA; a sister, Arion de Roy, of Temploux, Belgium; seven grandchildren, Christine Caeser, Samantha Baynes, Adrienne McCaskey, Daniel Pugh, Nicholas Pugh, Kimberly Mahonee, and Kristopher Scott; and twenty great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jules Pieter Prins, and a daughter, Marinette Prins Troup.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, September 9, 2022, in the Myers-Baker Funeral Home, 1903 Market St., Camp Hill, PA. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family in Rolling Green Cemetery, Camp Hill, PA.
