Obituary for Billy Olsson

Billy Erik Olsson, 98, of Mechanicsburg, passed away on Wednesday, July 20, 2022, at Country Meadows Retirement Community, Mechanicsburg.

Born on October 18, 1923, in Stockholm, Sweden, he was the son of the late Erik Valentin and Jenny Linnéa (Nilsson) Olsson. His brother Lars Olsson and his parents were deceased before 1980. Billy graduated in Stockholm with a BS in engineering. Working at home he designed a filing machine to provide precision tooling for stamping dies. He received a patent on the machine. Billy married Ulla Holmström in 1948. They immigrated to Chicago, USA, in 1953. Billy worked for a number of companies until moving to New Cumberland, PA, to work at Berg Electronics in 1965. Their son, John Erik, was also born in Chicago in 1965. In 1970, Billy started working for AMP Inc. in Harrisburg, PA, where he invented a number of new products. He worked for AMP Inc. for 21 years and received 54 patents during that time. He retired from AMP Inc. in 1991. Prior to his employment at AMP, Inc., he had accumulated 19 patents. During his life Billy accumulated a total of 73 patents in his name. He was a retired member of AMPRA.

Billy is survived by his son John Erik Olsson and wife Ann Louise; and grandchildren Emily Bristol and husband Kevin, of Long Island, NY, Katherine Linnea, of Manhattan, and Erik Ragnar, of New Jersey.

Billy was preceded in death by his wife, Ulla (Holmström) Olsson.

A celebration of Billy’s life will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, July 26, 2022, in the Chapel of Peace, located on the grounds of Rolling Green Cemetery, 1811 Carlisle Rd., Camp Hill, PA. Myers-Baker Funeral & Cremation Service, Inc., Camp Hill, has been entrusted with funeral arrangements.
