Obituary for Anna May Berrang (Kobige)

Anna May (Kobige) Berrang, 83, of Denver, PA, and formerly of New Philadelphia, PA, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 23, 2022, after a courageous battle with cancer at the St. Francis Home in Shillington, PA.

Born on January 29, 1939, in St. Clair, PA, she is the daughter of the late Joseph and Clementine (Machay) Kobige.

Anna May was a 1956 graduate of the St. Clair Area High School. She began her career as the Secretary to the Budget office at the Library of Congress in Washington, DC. She was married to the love of her life, Johnny, for 57 years. They were together for a total of 65 years. They first met at a dance hall in Pottsville, where she quite literally swept him off his feet. When she became a mother, she devoted her life to caring for her family as the perfect homemaker. Anna May was the family chef. She made every home cooked meal feel like Thanksgiving. She was a talented dancer, gifted seamstress, and avid reader. Her favorite thing to do was spend time with her family. She loved taking family trips to the beach at Stone Harbor and sending encouraging cards to all she loved, with messages better than Hallmark could write. We were never surprised to hear that she made a new friend wherever she went. Anna May radiated joy. She had a laugh and smile that lit up the room. She had a deep faith in God and a strong affection for the Blessed Mother Mary. Her family was her greatest treasure. After becoming a grandmother, she enjoyed working in the cafeteria at the Cocalico School District, following her grandchildren through the school system.

Anna May is survived by her loving husband, John Berrang, of Denver, PA, and formerly of New Philadelphia, PA, her two daughters, Nancy (Berrang) Weinhold and her husband, Steven, of Reamstown, PA, and Bridget L. (Berrang) Aschenbrenner and her husband, Steven, of Mechanicsburg, PA, two sisters, Florence Leddy and her husband Robert, of Pottsville, PA, and Helen Marie Melochick and her husband Marty, of Pottsville, PA, five grandchildren, Maegan Weinhold, of Washington, DC, Matthew Weinhold, of Belcamp, MD, Kayleigh Baker, of Mechanicsburg, PA, Allie Aschenbrenner, of Mechanicsburg, PA, and Lauren Ashenbrenner, of Mechanicsburg, PA, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Francis, Joseph, and Robert, and one sister, Elizabeth.

A mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, November 30, 2022, in the Holy Cross Catholic Church, 99 N. Valley St, New Philadelphia, PA, with Father Christopher Zelonis as Celebrant. A viewing will be held in the church on Wednesday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the mass.
